And I'm not sure if I (or my family) could afford a fumigation. Hell, I'm not sure if we have to move out quite a lot of stuff (i.e. fish, food, electronics) just for that. Any recommendations?

Roach tablets. They work. Mostly borax, you can find a recipe to make them yourself. But I've had the giant Texas roaches in my house, and these things kill them.

Clear out all food, clean all surfaces. Keep everything packaged in sealed containers or ziplock bags. Wash all clothing and sheets, clean all carpets, wash inside cabinets and behind appliances. I mean clean EVERYTHING. No surface left without being washed.

Then start looking into alternatives.

If there's no food, bugs aren't going to stick around.

If you're attached to other buildings where they may not be cleaning, things might be a problem, since the roaches could still live in your building but migrate over there for food.

Try the diatomaceous earth non poisonous route:

http://m.homedepot.com/p/Safer-Brand-…

Get a cheap ketchup squeeze bottle from a dollar store, fill it with the powder, then hold at angle and squeeze so it puffs out a fine dust. Dust behind counters, refrigerator, cabinets, and anywhere that looks to be a hiding place for them - then just leave it.

It's non toxic, but avoid breathing the dust - that means puppy and/or kitty, too, so don't put it where they can get their little snouts near it. Make sure you get *food grade* .

I'm sure there are YouTube videos showing proper application for effective treatment.

haha, I was thinking the exact same thing when I was just looking at a roach drinking water from a bowl of shallots in my laundry. One method that I plan to try out is baking soda + icing (powdered) sugar. Apparently it kills ants too, which is a bonus!

Get yourself some spiders. My parentes have 3 or 4 nests of house spiders near the kitchen and living rooms back at their place, and they really have a hand at keeping roaches and other insects under control.

Best way to get rid of a Roach is to send it to the crusher.
